Online PhD programmes offered by edtech enterprises with foreign varsities not recognised UGC, AICTE THE UNIVERSITY subventions Commission( UGC) and the All India Council of Technical Education( AICTE) have issued a notice advising people against subscribing up for online PhDs offered by edtech companies in collaboration with foreign educational institutions, saying similar programmes aren’t recognised by it. Foreign universities are awaiting guidelines to set up campuses in India, say UNISA officials. The Union government is expected to announce a policy on the matter soon, they said. “We have been told that the policy is in the final stages of approval and should be announced soon. Once that happens, we will be able to take a call on setting up our campus in India,” said a UNISA official. The university is exploring the possibility of setting up a campus in India, he said. “We are waiting for the policy announcement before taking a final decision. India is a huge market and we would like to have a presence here,” he said.
